Conversation with a Data Scientist: How Owls Hear (and What It Has to Do with Data Science)

Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 12:00 PM until 1:00 PMPacific Daylight Time UTC -07:00

Join Professor Brian Fischer, a faculty member in Seattle University’s Master in Data Science (MSDS) program, for an informal virtual lunch conversation exploring how data science is used in real neuroscience research. Dr. Fischer is a computational neuroscientist whose work examines how the brain processes sound, including how barn owls locate prey in complete darkness using only auditory cues. In this interactive session, he’ll share examples from his current research and highlight how the mathematical and statistical tools taught in the MSDS program are applied in cutting-edge scientific discovery. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the faculty and research shaping the program.

Registration is no longer available because the registration deadline has passed.
